Examines how traditional political systems, social structures, economic systems, and religions and philosophies were progressively modified under impact of modernization but continue to influence contemporary culture. Studies effects of Western encroachment on East-West relations in modern period. Features evolution of Communist China and Japan's imperialist experiment.
