PHSC 205 - WEATHER & CLIMATE
205 WEATHER AND CLIMATE 4(3-2) This laboratory-based course provides students with the opportunity to investigate the causes and the characteristics of the Earth's weather and climate. Topics covered include: earth-sun relations, oceanic circulation, structure of the atmosphere, heating of the atmosphere and surface, global warming and the greenhouse effect, climate change, stability, moisture, cloud formation, precipitation, air pressure and wind, mid-latitude cyclones, global patterns of wind and precipitation, meteorological maps, severe weather, El Nino and La Nina, fronts and air masses, weather forecasting, and the scientific process. Students are expected to have the ability to use the internet. Prerequisites: E, M, R
